books in my life

books are those things that have shaped my world quite a lot. like since the age of four when i learned to read…well. better a good book than a hollywood special effects thingy.

i thought this worth considering in unslept nights. ten (or so) books I would not do without. in the order of importance. Or not quite so (excpt.1-4)

1. The Bible (by God&Co)
2. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.  Tolkien
3. Das Glassperlenspiel by Herman Hesse
4. The Neverending Story by Michael Ende
5. Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
6. Dune by Frank Herbert
7. Seven Pillars of Wisdom by Thomas Edward Lawrence
8. My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell
9. Catholic Prayer Book (by a multitude of authors)
10. Confessions by St. Augustine
11. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula  Le Guin
12. Volkodav by Maria Semjonova
13. Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
14. Hero with a thousand faces by Joseph Campbell
15. Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

…. Books I wish I had never read, in order of hideousness (worst come first)

1. Da Vinci Code by Brown
2. anything by Coelho, the name alone is enough
3. Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer-Bradley
4. A Russian translation of IT by Stephen King (because of the translation, not the book)
5. The Latvian Translation of The Lord of the Rings. They messed it up.

books i like to read. because they have nice worlds, and great immersion factors.
